 2.8 Drought
    In July, precipitation in Turkey was up 35% y/y, while it was 16% above the seasonal average. Nevertheless, drought continued in the country as July is always a month that has low precipitation.
Turkey’s Lake Tuz (or “Salt Lake”), once the country’s second largest lake, is presently entirely devoid of water.
   2.9 Business and consumer confidence surveys
    Ten women journalists were physically assaulted in Turkey during July. Turkey blocked 467,011 web addresses between the enactment of its internet law in 2007 and the end of 2020.
Annual meat consumption per capita in Turkey declined more than 30% y/y to 7-8kg in 2020 from 12kg in 2019.
“People cannot afford to buy meat because prices are rising fast... People used to consume meat at their workplaces, where companies offer a meal to their employees. However, since people had to stay home during the pandemic, this did not happen and meat consumption declined.”
Pasta consumption per capita increased 5% y/y in 2019 and by a further 25% y/y in 2020 to 8.2 kg.
