MAKING HITCHES
Marlinespike Hitch
The Marlinespike Hitch is named after a small metal bar used as a tying
tool. It is tapered to a point at one end, which can be inserted into
knots to work them loose, or into the strands of rope to aid with
splicing.
1 Twist the tip of the marlinespike so that the rope forms a crossing
turn over it.
2 Pull the bight across the standing part, forming what looks like an
Overhand Knot.
