                                       Marlinespike Hitch
                       The Marlinespike Hitch is named after a small metal bar used as a tying
                       tool. It is tapered to a point at one end, which can be inserted into
                       knots to work them loose, or into the strands of rope to aid with
                       splicing.


                       1  Twist the tip of the marlinespike so that the rope forms a crossing
                          turn over it.
























                       2  Pull the bight across the standing part, forming what looks like an
                          Overhand Knot.
