                 3   Lift the bight of the standing part up through the crossing turn.


























                     With the use of a Marlinespike Hitch, string or other small cordage
                 can quickly and easily be attached to the marlinespike. By holding the
                 marlinespike in your fist with the standing part of the hitch coming out
                 between your two middle fingers, you can pull forcefully without the
                 string cutting into your hand. A lashing or seizing can be made very
                 tight this way.
