Australia was the first developed country to recognise Bangladesh
(on 31 January, 1972). Bangladesh and Australia established resident
missions in 1972 in each other's capital and continued to enjoy good
relations extending beyond political understanding and development
assistance into trade and investment, education, people-to-people
contact and tourism.
The Prime Minister of Bangladesh met the then
Australian Prime Minister Malcom Turnbull MP
at the latter's residence on 28 April 2018 and
discussed issues of mutual interests.
Australian Foreign Minister, Senator Marise Payne

met Hon ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her
visit to Bangladesh on 3-5 September 2019.
