The Business Executive Award
For more than 30 years, Clinton B. Forbes has
solidified a reputation as a leader and innovator in
public transportation. A Florida native, Forbes has
been the Executive Director of Palm Tran since
November 2015. Palm Tran, a mid-size transit
agency, provides fixed- route, paratransit and
microtransit to one of the geographically largest
counties east of the Mississippi River and the third
largest county in the state. The bus system, using
more than 400 vehicles, travels to every major
destination in Palm Beach County. Mr. Forbes is
responsible for 630 employees and an annual budget
of approximately $180 million annually. Forbes’
career includes leadership positions at: the Miami-
Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and
three transit properties; Miami-Dade Transit (MDT),
Clinton B. Forbes the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) and
the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA).
Mr. Forbes re-energized and transformed transit in Palm Beach County with a series of bold
initiatives including: launching the PT Stat Performance Management Program, beginning
the Go Glades mobility on demand (MOD) service in the Glades Region and conducting the
largest fixed-route bus network redesign in 22 years, the Route Performance Maximization
(RPM) project. His work has earned him several prestigious awards from: the National
Association of Counties (NACo), Florida Public Transit Association (FPTA) and American
Public Transportation Association (APTA), among others. Particularly notable is the APTA
Gold Award for Transit Safety and Security (2019).
Mr. Forbes is an active member of APTA, the Conference of Minority Transportation
Officials (COMTO) and the Bus Coalition. He serves as the Chair of the FPTA Board, is an
Executive Board Member of the National Transit Institute (NTI), and is a member of the
Executive Board of the United Way of Palm Beach County.
