The Rising Star Award
Mathew Bradley Harper is a spirited 7th grader at
Bak Middle School of the Arts, where academics,
service and music all play an important role in his
life. Mathew prides himself in his work ethic and
strives to be his best in every tasks he undertakes. He
is also proud to lead by example; demonstrating to
his younger sisters and other youth in the
community that with hard work, they can also
achieve anything. Despite his young 13 years, Mathew
understands the importance of education. Recently,
he was inducted into The National Junior Honor
Society and received the Carson Scholars
Recognition for the 3rd consecutive year.
With such a bright start, it is no surprise that
Mathew has plans of becoming a musician,
Mathew Harper programmer and doctor. He also hopes to give back
by providing aid to the homeless in his community.
Matthew’s focus on homelessness is not new. At the young age of 6, Mathew founded The
LuvMat Project, which supplies blankets, mats and toiletries to homeless residents
throughout the community.
When taking a break from academic excellence, refining his musical talents, serving the
homeless and mentoring his younger siblings, Mathew devotes his time to the Boy Scouts of
America. Recently, Mathew earned the Star Class Rank in his troop and was inducted into the
Order of the Arrow Scout Honor Society; an honor bestowed to Scouts who best exemplify the
Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives.
Musically, Mathew loves playing the trumpet and singing. He is a member of both the
Symphonic and Jazz Band at Bak Middle School of the Arts. He also plans on rejoining the
School Chorus this upcoming school term. In recognition of his outstanding musical talent,
Mathew was recently selected as a 2021 semi-finalist in the National Trumpet Competition.
