Remember: all that we are,
and all we plan to become through goals and other means,
is what we have to OFFER other people:
OURSELVES!
Learn to Prioritize
For instance, the first thing above is personal, which can be personal
development. Many people define this as something being wrong in
our lives. But, like with health, we don’t need to have something wrong
with us to pursue health, eating well, exercise, etc. So we need to see
things in the big picture and rank things according to importance.
Setting goals should not mean that we must abandon other things that
are important to us. As an example, in that I’m a spiritual person, it is
very important to me to have time for spiritual input each day. I would
not allow working on my goals to interfere with this.
We should ask: “What are the 2 or 3 (or 5) most important things?
Then, the next day, week or month (depending on your schedule) we
should focus and work on #1 until we’ve achieved it or have advanced it
satisfactorily, and then move on to number 2 or number 3 or number 5.
We need to simplify life and focus on what is most important to us –
but again, without abandoning things that are also important to us.
This also helps us in overcoming procrastination, which is something
almost all of us face. If something is not in the front part of our mind, it
goes to the back part of our mind.
It also speaks to making progress. If something is prioritized then we
look at it frequently if not daily. Did we make progress today? – Or this
week? – Or this month? -- It is dependent on what our itinerary is.
