Horizon
My Dream Paradise
I opened my eyes after a good night’s rest,
Greeted by the sugar-sweet rays of the sun’s warm glow. I felt refreshed as I pulled the covers off my body,
And walked into my closet to get dressed.
After washing up and eating breakfast, I wanted to go outside;
I reached for my sandals, but then decided to go barefoot.
As I opened the front door, I felt the sweet, flowery aroma of the tropical air Dancing up my nostrils and having a party inside.
I jumped off the front porch and landed in the sand;
Smiling at the feeling of the warm, rough grains sticking between my toes. I ran and plopped down to my favorite spot on the shore,
The spot where I always take time to get tanned.
I watched frothy white foam of the waves crash against the shore,
And the waters shimmer in the sunlight like a brand-new sapphire.
The only sounds I could hear were the waves and the chirping of native birds; I felt so at peace, and desired nothing more.
As I lay in the warm, comforting arms of the sand, I closed my eyes,
Thinking to myself, “I never want to leave...”
Suddenly, the sound of earsplitting, piercing beeps pounded through my eardrums As my eyes shot open, I was met with the most unpleasant surprise.
I let out a huge groan as I shut off my alarm clock,
Thinking of the millions of tasks that lay ahead of me for the day.
So heartbroken was I that it was all merely a dream,
And reality sunk in like my face hitting a rock.
Michaela Pinzone `15 Poeticness>>Poetic Mess
When dealing with sleeping and hearts and minds, I can be quite the poetic mess.
I let my hands type and occasionally write
To convey what I can’t verbally confess.
There’s an ice-cold ocean roaring in my mind And a burning desert in my chest,
But somehow I can feel serene
If I write what I before had suppressed.
