What does a school counselor do?
Continually evaluates Counseling program and services to ensure opportunities for students to meet their academic, career, social, personal and spiritual needs.
• Talks with students individually and in groups
• Helps to identify the academic, career, social and personal concerns of students.
• Aids teachers and parents in helping students.
• Uses tests to provide information about abilities, achievement, interests, and needs.
• Helps with school, college, job, career and personal plans.
• Helps people make better use of community resources.
• Writes recommendations for students.
• Makes presentations at parent meetings.
• Coordinates efforts with other school specialists.
• Coordinates referrals to outside agencies.
• Maintains professional participation in groups such as OCEA, OACAC, NACAC, ASCA, and OSCA.
