Padua Sets New “Christmas for Others” Record, Raises $36K for Charity
December is always the most wonderful time of the year at Padua. All month long our students, faculty, sta , and alumni participate in our “Christmas For Others” fundraiser.
e largest student-run fundraiser in Northeast Ohio, CFO seeks to make the holidays brighter for the less fortunate.
In 2016, Padua collected a record-breaking $36,068 in cash, in addition to thousands of donations (clothing, food, books and toys) for non-pro t agencies and families in need. Students distributed the money and goods during our CFO Mass on Friday, December
16, 2016. Non-pro ts including Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army, Parma Hunger Center, Parma Heights Food Pantry, Bishop Cosgrove Center, Maggie’s
Place, Kick-It for Cancer, Girls with Sole, homeless shelters, and many others attended and received their generous checks.
Our students raised funds in a number of ways. e most exciting was our Coin Wars Competition. is year, in just 18 minutes, we collected $14,822 cash for
local charities and families in need. Students also went door-to-door in our neighborhood to collect canned goods for local food pantries. Our Italian Club hosted a Spaghetti Dinner, which raised several thousand dollars. Spanish Club
sold nachos. German Club sold root beer oats. We had a student vs. faculty volleyball game, where the $1 admission went to the good cause of CFO.
We also had a blood drive, where students helped save 75 lives.
For 45 years, the Padua community has come together in the Franciscan spirit of giving. Since its inception in 1971, CFO has raised $500,000 for charity. It is sponsored, organized and operated by Padua students, under the direction of Padua’s Key (Kiwanis) Club.
Padua Receives Parma’s Outstanding Citizen Award
Padua Franciscan High School received the City of Parma’s Out-
standing Citizen Award for January 2017. Our Bruins gave back to
the community by raking and bagging leaves at the homes of more
than 40 Parma residents in need on November 6. In recognition of
this service, Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter and Councilman Allan
Divis (the father of four Padua alumni) presented a plaque to Padua
President Fr. Allan DaCorte, ofm and Principal David Stec ’86 at the
City Council Meeting on February 6. All 755 of our students are committed to serving the community, following the example of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi. At Padua, students learn that actions are a re ection of faith. Community service is part of our curriculum, but by the time our students graduate, it is part of their DNA.
