Campus Minister in Diaconate Program
Padua’s Campus Minister Matt Harley is one of four Northeast Ohio men in formation to become ordained
as deacons. He was installed in the Ministry of Acolyte by Bishop
Nelson Perez during a Mass on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at
St. Raphael Parish in Bay Village.
He is in his third year of diaconate formation at the Center for Pastoral
Leadership in Wickli e. A candidate to become a permanent deacon commits to  ve years in formation prior to ordination.
Christopher DePenti, father of Julia DePenti ’19, is also in formation to become a deacon.
Students Sweeten Halloween for Inner-City Kids
Padua made Halloween a little happier
for hundreds of underserved children
in inner-city Cleveland. Our students
helped collect a trunkful of Halloween
candy from the Padua community.
Senior Alexis Scott ’18 volunteered to help
run the candy collection for four years. We
donated the candy to a local faith-based non-pro t, Nueva Luz Urban Resource Center. NLURC passed out the candy at a Trunk-or-Treat event on Tuesday, October 31, 2017.
Sophomore Service Retreat
 e Sophomore Class Retreat was held on Tuesday, October24 and Wednesday, October 25, 2017. All members of the sophomore class attended.  e retreat focused on the meaning and purpose of Christian service. A er attending a “send-o  ” prayer service led by  ve members of the senior class, students went to 12 di erent service sites in the Cleveland area to perform service for the day.  e sites included the following: the Bishop Cosgrove Center, Camp Cheerful, the Cleveland Food Bank, Malachi House, Metanoia Project, Regina Health Center, St. Augustine Hunger Center, St. Francis Elementary School, St. Herman’s House of Hospitality, St. Malachi’s Backdoor Ministry, West Creek Reservation and the Westside Catholic Center. Projects ranged from serving meals and babysitting, to yard work and organizing donations. A er returning to school in the a ernoon, students had a chance to re ect on and share their experience with their peers who were at other sites.
