rationale
the purpose of this teacher’s Guide is to assist teachers to teach literary texts according to the Key
components required by the Ministry, and to incorporate the explicit teaching and assessment of
higher-order thinking skills (HotS).
HotS questions are nothing new to the veteran teacher, especially the veteran teacher of literature.
The difference is that students will now be taught and made aware of the thinking skills they are using.
the new literature modules, d and F, can either be completed as a Log or as preparation for the
written Literature Bagrut examination. this teacher’s Guide focuses on the examination option and
presents all the literary texts for Module F – Five Points – option one, with a range of activities
for all the Key components, following the Ministry guidelines clearly set out in the latest Ministry
Handbook available on the Ministry website.
Program design
We recommend that you teach the literary texts in the order that they appear. the program has been
carefully designed to introduce and spiral HotS effectively. teaching and spiraling (re-entering) of
literary terms is also systematic.
the table below shows the overall planning for this examination option.
