7) Question and Answer Drill
This drill gives students practice with answering questions.
The students should answer the teacher’s questions very
quickly. It is also possible for the teacher to cue the students to
ask questions as well. This gives students practice with the
question pattern.
4. Students’ Roles in the Audio-Lingual Method
Richards (1999: 56) states that learners are viewed as
organism that can be directed by skilled training techniques to
produce responses. In accordance with behaviorist learning
theory, teaching focuses on the external manifestations of
learning rather than on the internal process. Learners play a
reactive role by responding to stimuli, and thus have little
control over the content, pace, or style of learning. They are not
encouraged to initiate interaction, because this may lead to
mistake.
