President’s Message
First and foremost, I hope this issue finds everyone in good health
and doing well during these challenging times with the COVID-19
pandemic. We all know it’s been a difficult and life altering experience.
I am excited to be a part of this issue of the Journal of Ophthalmic
Prosthetics. A special thanks goes out to our Senior Editor, Shirley
Weyland, for the selection of authors and contributors, as well as her
fantastic job on editing. Shirley will be retiring as Editor after this issue
and we will be forever grateful for the professionalism she brought to
the publication and countless hours of volunteer work.
As you all are aware, we are a volunteer organization. Please contrib-
ute! Find a committee you have interest in and join. My sincere thanks
to all of our current volunteers.
Please take the time to show your appreciation to our Education Co-
Chairs, Christine Boehm and Rick Bowen, as well as Michelle Bullard,
who stepped up to replace Christine, who is retiring as Co-Chair at the
end of this year. Please also show your appreciation to our College of
Ocularistry Deans, Heather Banfield and Kevin Kelly, as well as all the
committee members who serve on these hard-working committees.
Without the hard work and insight of all these volunteers, we would
not be the world recognized organization that we are.
A special thank you goes out to our amazing Board of Directors. This
has been a frantic time for all, but each of you have put the ASO first
when needed. A special thanks also goes out to our fantastic Executive
Director, Tina Schott. Thank you for everything you do, always.
To our Journal sponsors, your support is greatly appreciated, as well.
I am pleased to announce the appointment of our new Journal
of Ophthalmic Prosthetics Senior Editors. Joseph LeGrand, Jr.
will be serving as Co-Senior Editor with Stephen Sanders.
Thank you gentlemen for stepping up to this essential role in ASO.
Looking forward to our first online Annual Conference this Fall,
necessitated due to the COVID pandemic.
It has truly been my honor to serve as your President.
Respectfully,
Antonio Alcorta, Sr., BCO, BADO
