Study Section 6: The Passover Supper
6.1 Connect
Have you ever thought about having a Passover supper? Around Easter time Jewish people
enjoy gathering as a family and have a Seder or traditional Passover dinner together. Our
family did this a couple years ago. We were actually surprised how much of the diner points
to the Messiah, Jesus Christ and what He would accomplish for redemption. Unfortunately,
most Jewish people don’t understand how each part of the Seder dinner tells the redemption
story of the Lord. In the Appendix of this study, we have given you a sample Passover Dinner that
celebrates the resurrection of Christ. Go ahead and try it. You will be blessed!
Today we are going to look at the details of this dinner and see how each part of the dinner symbolizes
Christ. Perhaps you will have an opportunity to share your dinner with a Jewish person and show
him/her that the dinner speaks of their Messiah. Let’s learn together….
6.2 Objectives
1. The student should be able to describe the components of the Passover supper and why each
component illustrates a truth about the coming Messiah.
2. The student should be able to explain the reason why God gave the Law to Israel and what its
purpose is.

6.3 The Passover Supper illustrates the Coming Redemption
The night before Israel was freed to depart Egypt, the Israelites ate a Passover Dinner which
was carefully scripted by Moses to illustrate the coming redemption, not only from Egypt, but
in the future salvation of mankind.
The Seder is the traditional dinner that Jews partake of as part of Passover. The annual Passover
commemoration is celebrated by nearly the entire Jewish community, bonding families and
communities to their Jewish roots. Each year Jewish people, religious
and nonreligious, celebrate the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob by
gathering and experiencing the Passover Seder.
The Hebrew word Seder means “order.” The Passover meal has a
specific order in which food is eaten, prayers are recited, and songs
are sung. Each item on the Passover plate has a specific historical
meaning related to the exodus of the Jews from Egypt and their
freedom from slavery. But 1 Corinthians 5:7 identifies Jesus Christ as
our Passover; thus, the Seder carries a New Testament meaning
related to Jesus the Messiah.
