P. 68

A force cannot intercede or pray on behalf of another. Only a person can do that.

               3. The Holy Spirit Issues Commands.

Acts 8:29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, "Go up and join this chariot."

Forces don’t speak and issue commands to people. In Acts 13:4 Paul and Barnabas were sent out by the
Holy Spirit. In Acts 16:6 the Holy Spirit prohibited Paul and Silas from preaching in Asia. Only a person
with a mind and will can do that.

WITNESSING NOTE: Since the Holy Spirit does things that only a person can do – such as pray for
believers, speak to people, issues commands to people, bear witness, and teach, does that not speak
to the fact that the Holy Spirit is a person?

The Holy Spirit is Treated like a Person.

               1. The Holy Spirit can be Grieved – Eph. 4:30.
               2. The Holy Spirit can be Blasphemed – Matthew 12:32, Mark 3:29-30
               3. The Holy Spirit can be Lied To – Acts 5:3
               4. The Holy Spirit can be Obeyed – Acts 13:2
               5. The Holy Spirit is Sent – John 14:26

WITNESSING NOTE: Since the Holy Spirit can be grieved, blasphemed, lied to, obeyed, and sent, does
that not speak to the fact that the Holy Spirit is a person?

What about the fact that the Holy Spirit does not have a name?

The Holy Spirit does have a name: Holy Spirit. His name speaks primarily of His character which is
holiness. To say that the Holy Spirit is not a person simply because a name is not assigned to Him is
clearly fallacious reasoning. There are a lot of persons and beings in both the spirit world and on earth
mentioned in the Bible but just because they don’t have a name does not mean they are not persons or
               beings.

               10.4 Let’s Practice…

                       1. What do the JWs say happened to Jesus’ body after His death?

                       2. According to JWs, Jesus was resurrected as “_________________________ ”

3-7. List the five reasons given to validate the physical resurrection of Christ.

               8. In I Cor. 15: 44-50 the Greek word _________________ ALWAYS (with no exceptions) in the
               Scripture describes a physical body.

               9. JWs believe the Holy Spirit is not God rather they believe He is the ________________ of Jehovah.
