Study Section 10: The Resurrection
10.1 Connect.
Not only will your Jehovah’s Witness friend attack who Jesus is, but he will also tell you that
Jesus did not bodily raise from the dead after His death on the cross. He will try to tell you He
was raised up as a spiritual being, Michael the archangel. He will also tell you that the Holy
Spirit is not God, but only God’s FORCE. They deny His personhood. So in this lesson, we will
show you how to demonstrate to your JW friend that Jesus was raised up with a living physical
body as a signature approval of his work on the cross. You will also be able to show them that the Holy
Spirit is a PERSON, not a force. Let’s get started.
10.2 Objectives.
1. The student should be able to answer the few verses that that JW will give you to “prove” that
Jesus was resurrected as a spirit being.
2. The student should be aware of how the JW will use verses to attempt to prove something that
have NOTHING to do with the topic at hand.
3. The student should be able to demonstrate to the JW that the Holy Spirit is a person, not a force,
because He has multiple attributes that validate His personhood.
10.3 The Resurrection of Jesus Christ / The Holy Spirit
Jehovah's Witnesses deny that Jesus was raised bodily from the dead. Instead, they claim that
he was raised a spirit creature without a physical body. JWs deny the bodily resurrection of
Christ through their teaching that the body of Christ was annihilated by God -- not risen -- but
rather a new one was created three days after His death. This they call the "resurrection" of
Christ. Thus, Jesus was "resurrected" as a "glorious spirit creature" and does not now have a
glorified physical body. Instead, they claim Jesus arose spiritually and only "materialized" at various
times after His resurrection so He could be seen alive. (Awake!, 7/22/73, p. 4) They believe that the
man Jesus is dead, forever dead. They believe that Jesus Christ resumed his identity as “Michael” the
archangel after his “resurrection.”
Even today, Jesus exists as a spirit creature – the archangel Michael. He does not
exist in a material, fleshly body. His “resurrection” was not a resurrection of
material flesh, but rather was a “re-creation” of the archangel Michael.
Here are the verses they use as “proof-texts” for their false doctrine.
