9.4 Let’s Practice…
1. List the four sources of witnesses Jesus stated that validated his claim to be the Messiah:
2. How much was a denarii worth in Jesus’s day?
3. Why do you suppose there were 12 baskets full of leftovers? Why not 10 or 11?
4. What lesson did Jesus try to teach his disciples in feeding the 5,000 men?
5. The next day, the people sought out Jesus. Why were they looking for Him?
6. State the four-fold response to John 6: 1-28 as stated in the lesson.
9.5 Let’s Personalize this Lesson…
Activity: Why do you follow Christ? Is it because of what YOU obtain from the relationship
with Him? He promises to provide for your daily food and clothing. That’s a good reason to
follow Him, correct? As sinners, we sometimes let our sin nature overshadow our motives:
we follow Christ because of what we receive from Him. The people who received free food
and watched the miracle of the feeding of the 5,000 sought Jesus out to make Him King. They
wanted Him to provide free food daily!
We need to follow Christ not because we get anything out of it, but because He is worthy! The scene in heaven
in the future, described in Revelation 5, displays the reason we follow Jesus:
11Then I looked, and I heard the voices of many angels and living creatures and elders
encircling the throne, and their number was myriads of myriads and thousands of
thousands. 12In a loud voice they said: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to
receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing!” 13And I
heard every creature in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and in the sea, and all that
is in them, saying: “To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be praise and honor and
glory and power forever and ever!”…
Take time to worship Him for who He is…not for the benefits you personally derive.
