Study Section 4: Chapter 2 - The Supremacy of Jesus as True Man
4.1 Connect
Have you ever heard the song, “Is He Worthy?” written by Andrew Peterson? The theme of
the song was taken from the book of Revelation, chapter 5. John saw a multitude of
people standing before the thrown of God and a book with seven seals was brought forth.
And no one in heaven was able to open the book and break the seals. But then, the Lamb
stood, and came forward to break the seals and open the book, because He was worthly. A
portion of the lyrics of the song go like this:
Is anyone worthy?
Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave
He is David's root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Of all blessing and honor and glory
Is He worthy of this?
He is

4.3 Chapter 2 - The Supremacy of Jesus as True Man
A. As the deity of Christ is argued for in Hebrews 1:1–2:4, so the humanity of Christ is
argued for in Hebrews 2:5–18. As one who was fully human, our Lord is described as
someone who belonged to the tribe of Judah (7:14), endured opposition from sinful
mortals (12:3), and was put to death outside of Jerusalem (13:12).
