Study Section 2: Chapters 4 - 6

               2.1 Connect.

When our earth is blessed with a lot of rain and our crops grow to maturity, we are blessed.
But have you ever wondered that while we are blessed by God’s provision, those who are
wicked are also blessed by the same rain? In fact, sometimes the wicked people seem to have
more “stuff” and blessings from God than we do who faithfully serve Him. You ever wonder
                        why God does that?

God is a God of love and “common grace.” That means He shares His goodness to all men, regardless of
their willingness to believe and accept Him as their Lord. Just remember that physical blessings are not
always a measure of God’s goodness. In fact, “things” can become idols in our lives and replace our love
for the true God and provider of all things. Today, Isaiah will consider answers to these questions that
               we face….

               2.2 Objectives.

                     1. The student should be able to explain that God exposes the many sins of His richly blessed
people in a parable of a failed vineyard, and He predicts the coming judgment on these sins by His
                     righteous wrath.

               2. The student should be able to explain that God reveals Christ to Isaiah, convicts him of sin, purifies
him and calls him to preach.

               2.3 Chapter 4

                       V. 1 The result of the men being off at war, and the ultimate result of many of them dying,
there weren’t enough men to go around. ‘Seven women’ shall take hold of one man, begging
                       him to marry them.

                       V. 2 ‘In that day’ is a phrase that is often repeated in Isaiah, as well as other scriptures. It refers
to the last day. The ‘Branch of the Lord’ refers to Jesus Christ. Remember that the book that I
am using is called ‘Exalting Jesus in Isaiah’, and there are numerous references to Jesus.

The ‘fruit of the earth’ will be returned to the original intention, free of thistles and thorns and sin.

For those of Israel who have escaped…the remnant, those who have obeyed and followed the word of
the Lord. They will be called holy.

               V. 3 This brings to mind the disagreements over the Rapture and the Tribulation…will those who are
alive and remain go through the Tribulation or not? It doesn’t matter…those who are saved are also
               sealed.

               V. 4 It’s a little disconcerting to think about ‘the spirit of burning’. Is this for believers? We are not
ready for heaven in our current state. Preparation is being made right now for eternity in Heaven.
