4.5 Let’s Personalize this Lesson…
Have you been so desperate for a miracle, that you felt you would do anything for that
pastor who could perform it, that you could just end up being their church member?
That kind of desperation leads to idolatry. Today miracles are idolized, and those who
perform them are considered to be even better than God Himself. Some of those faith
healers are building their churches and denominations on the foundation of Healing
miracles. Much of their advertisements and church services are based on miracle healings. Their
appetites to grow in numbers are based on miracle healings. And eventually they charge people
large sums of money based on the kind of healing performed. Unfortunately we do not see Peter
and John behaving that way. They saw miracles as opportunities for sharing the gospel. They never
drew the attention of the people to themselves. In fact, they were surprised that people were so
amazed about the miracle itself and amazed about them when they should have understood that
such an act of power could only be performed by the Jesus whom they rejected. My challenge to
you today is that you do not idolize a miracle or a miracle worker. The only direction miracles should
point you to is Jesus Christ!
