 The majority of the inhabitants of Hell are women.22
                                    • This is attributed to women being ungrateful to their husbands, and to being deficient
                                       in intelligence and religion.23

             Jinn
The topic of jinn seems to be a source of confusion in Islam, often referred to in Arab folklore and Islamic mythology.
They are referred to quite frequently throughout the Qur'an and Hadith, and yet the information concerning jinn are
either vague or conflicting, create more questions than answers.

              • .Jinn are unseen beings, who, like humans, are given the power to choose between right and wrong.
                     o Surah 72 is titled Al-Jinn.
o The Arabic singular, Jinni, is where we get our term "genie".
 From the same root word are junun ("madness") and majnun ("madman").
              • Jinn are created out of fire and are designed to serve Allah.
o "And the Jinn race, We had created before [mankind], from the fire of a scorching wind." - Al-Hijr (The
                         Stoneland) 15:27
o "And I have not created the jinn and the men except that they should serve Me." - Adh-Dhariyat (The
                         Winnowing Winds) 51:56 See also the following Surahs: 7:12; 38:76; 55:15, 33, 39
              • The Qur'an records that jinn have been worshiped by mankind.
o "They shall say: Glory be to Thee! Thou art our Guardian, not they; nay! they worshipped the jinn; most
of them were believers in them." - Saba (Sheba) 34:41 See also Surah 37:158
              • Jinn can be good, evil, or neutrally benevolent.
o "'There are among us (the jinn) some that are righteous, and some the contrary; we follow divergent
                         paths." - Al-Jinn 72:11
              • Jinn are capable of becoming Muslims.
o "Behold, We turned towards thee a company of Jinns listening to the Qur'an: when they stood in the
presence thereof, they said, 'Listen in silence!' When the (reading) was finished, they returned to their
people, to warn (them of their sins)." - Al-Ahqaf (The Dunes) 46:29 . This account is confirmed in Al-
                         Bukhari 1:12:740.
o "'Amongst us [jinn] are some that submit their wills (to Allah), and some that swerve from justice. Now
those who submit their wills, they have sought out (the path) of right conduct." -Al-Jinn 72:14
              • Jinn have the capability of dying, after which they are judged.
o "The Prophet used to say, "I seek refuge (with YOU) by Your 'Izzat. None has the right to be worshipped
but You Who does not die while the Jinns and the human beings die."24 See also Surah 32:13
o "Whomsoever Allah guides, he is the one who follows the right way; and whomsoever He causes to err,
these are the losers. And certainly, We have created for hell many of the jinn and the men..." - Al-Araf (The
                         Heights) 7:178-179a
              • Solomon had the ability to command jinn, which he employed to help build his kingdom, including the
                                                     25
                  Temple.26
o The Qur'an relates that Solomon died leaning on his staff. He remained upright, propped on his staff, so
the jinn continued to work as though he were alive and supervising them. They realized the truth only
when a worm came from the ground and ate away the base of the staff, cause Solomon's body to
                         collapse.27
 If the worm had not eaten the staff, the jinn would have continued to work in humiliating
                                enslavement.
