• "O ye People of the Book! believe in what We have (now) revealed, confirming what
was (already) with you..." - An-Nisa (The Women) 4:47a
• "It is He Who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what
went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before
this, as a guide to mankind..." - Al-Imran (The Family of Imran) 3:3a
• "To thee We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that came before it,

The Qur'an makes clearer the teaching of the Jewish and Christian scriptures.
• "This Qur'an is not such as can be produced by other than Allah; on the contrary it is a
confirmation of (revelations) that went before it, and a fuller explanation of the Book -
wherein there is no doubt -from the Lord of the worlds." - Yunis (Jonah) 10:37
• "Verily this Qur'an doth explain to the Children of Israel most of the matters in which they
disagree." - Al-Naml (The Ant) 27:76
Muhammad is foretold in the Jewish and Christian scriptures (Surah 7:157).
• "Those who follow the messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find mentioned
in their own (scriptures), in the law and the Gospel..." - Al-Araf (The Heights) 7:157a
Does the Qur'an Confirm the Bible?
In some ways, the Qur'an does confirm the Bible (that there is one God who is the creator of all things and that there will be
a day when God will judge all mankind), but there are many areas in which the Appendix A: The Test of Prophethood
Qur'an contradicts the teachings of the Bible rather than confirming it.
• Fighting for God:
o In the Gospel, Jesus clearly taught that Christians are not to fight for their religion (a teaching
echoed by the apostles).
"I (Jesus) tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek,
turn to them the other cheek also. Love your enemies and pray for those who
persecute you." - Matthew 5:39, 44
"'Put your sword back in its place,' Jesus said to him, 'for all who draw the sword will die by
the sword.'" - Matthew 26:52
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the
authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil
in the heavenly realms." - Ephesians 6:12
o The Qur'an teaches that the Gospel taught that fighting for God (religion) is acceptable.
"Allah hath purchased of the believers their persons and their goods; for theirs (in
return) is the garden (of Paradise): they fight in His cause, and slay and are slain: a
promise binding on Him in truth, through the Law, the Gospel, and the Qur'an: and who
is more faithful to his covenant than Allah? then rejoice in the bargain which ye have
concluded: that is the achievement supreme." At- Tawba (Repentance) 9:111
• The punishment for a thief:
o The Old Testament teaches the following about the punishment for stealing:
The thief must repay the property he stole plus an additional amount to compensate
(Leviticus 6:1-5, Exodus 22:1, 3-4, 7).
If the thief cannot repay, they he is forced to work to repay his debt (Exodus 22:4).
The maximum length of time one must work to repay his debt is six years, after which
he/she is to be released (Deuteronomy 15:12-14).
o The Qur'an teaches that a thief is to have his hand cut off.
