Sam Harris: Islam is Not a Religion of Peace

          10.4 Let’s Practice…

1 - 5. List the five Pillars of Islam:

                     6. What does the Shahada state:

                     7. Describe the Muslim practice of prayer:

          8. Why is washing so important to the Muslim before prayer?

          9. Why do Muslims pray in the direction of Mecca?

          10. Why do Muslims give alms to those in need?

11-13. Give three ways that alms funds are used within the Muslim faith:

          14. What do Muslims collect from non-Muslims to allow them to remain in their presence?

          10.5 Let’s Personalize this Lesson…

Activity: Do you pray to the Lord FIVE times per day? Devout Muslims do. You will see them lay down
a rug in the airport and pray toward Mecca while waiting to board a plane. And they don’t appear to
be ashamed of this act! Yet, many Christians are ashamed of praying in a restaurant before a meal,
thanking the Lord for His provision.

The Bible says we are to pray not five times a day, but without ceasing (I Thessalonians 5:17). How is that possible?
Obviously, it cannot mean we are to be in a head-bowed, eyes-closed posture all day long. Paul is not referring to
non-stop talking, but rather an attitude of God-consciousness and God-surrender that we carry with us all the time.
