                4.5 Let’s Personalize this Lesson…

Activity: In the realm of theology, there are those who believe that Jesus Christ came to
earth to pay for the sins of only the elect or chosen of God. They believe that those whom
God chose needed a random for their sin, so on the cross, Jesus died only for their sins, and
not the sins of those who reject Christ. It’s called limited atonement. According to I
Timothy 2:6 and I John 2:2, did Christ die only for a select few (the elect) or did He pay the
penalty for every man’s sin, even those who reject Him?

Think about it. One of the most popular verses in all of Scripture is John 3:16. For God so loved the
world (that’s everyone) that He gave his only begotten (unique) Son, that whosoever (anyone and
everyone) believes in Him shall not perish, but will have eternal life.

John 1:11-12 He came unto his own, and they that were his own received him not. But as many as

                                                                                          12
received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his
                name.
I Timothy 2: 3-4. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to
                                                                     4
                               3
come to a knowledge of the truth. (This would be impossible if Christ died only for the elect).
