d. both [totality] in Jerusalem [Jewish Capital], and in Judea [locations surrounding the
Jewish Capital], and in Samaria [locations beyond Judea], and unto the uttermost part
[final or remotest area] of the earth [planet].

                              (1) This signifies that Jesus’ followers would be witnesses to Jews in Jerusalem.

                                 (a) Jerusalem was where the followers of Jesus were located.

                                 (b) Jerusalem was the center of Jewish worship and commerce.

                                 (c) Jerusalem was primarily a Jewish city.

                                 (d) Jerusalem was the Jewish Capital.

                                 (e) Luke illustrates through the first 7 chapters of Acts that the followers of Jesus
testified primarily to Jews in Jerusalem.

                              (2) This signifies that Jesus’ followers would not be witnesses exclusively to Jews in
                                     Jerusalem.

                                 (a) The use of ‘te…kai’ indicates totality – not just Jerusalem but also other places.

                                 (b) Luke illustrates throughout the book of Acts that the followers of Jesus testified
in regions and to people beyond Jerusalem.

                                 (c) Luke illustrates throughout the book of Acts that followers of Jesus also testified
to those who were not Jews.

                              (3) This signifies that Jesus’ followers would testify in remote places of the earth.

                                 (a) The phrase ‘uttermost part’ is an adjective descriptive of final or furthest from
                                     the first.

                                 (b) In series, there is a progression from near location (Jerusalem) to remote
                                     (earth).

                                 (c) Luke records that followers of Jesus testified in the remotest place known to
them, which at time was Rome.

                       6. Significance

In the book of Acts Luke recounted events for Theophilus concerning the impact
that the life and ministry of Jesus Christ had on His followers, hereafter known as
His apostles. In this text in particular Luke recounted for Theophilus a conversation
that Jesus had with His apostles after having resurrected yet just prior to His
ascension back to heaven. In this conversation a question was raised by His apostles
to whom Jesus gave an answer. While His apostles assumed that Jesus would
