16.5 Let’s Personalize this Lesson…
We who live on the other side of Calvary experience life differently. We hear the curses of
Deuteronomy about trouble and hardship and persecution and famine and nakedness and
danger and sword. We understand that Christ has changed these terrible experiences. They are
punishments no longer. Instead we “are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” We are
“convinced that neither death nor life…nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from
the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Rom. 8:35, 37-39).” The final part of the vassal treaty,
citing the witnesses to the treaty, transforms this pagan outline of failure into a testimony to the
gracious love of YHWH! Nothing can stop our experience of his love in our lives.
We have far more of the blessings of God than Moses ever experienced on earth. We know the truth of
Christ’s coming in history (1 Cor. 15:1-8). Moses longed to know more of Christ’s coming (1 Pet. 1:10-
12). We have the reality of changed hearts by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (Col. 2:11-14). Moses,
though experiencing the glory of God, knew him from the outside in a fading glory (2 Cor. 3:7-11). Moses
and all the OT saints were incomplete, only with us would they be made perfect (Heb. 11:39-40).
May we live daily trusting in our Lord! May our choices not only reflect the experience of his glory inside
but also a keen sense of the opportunities we have daily to honor Him.
