Study Section 4: Laying a Theological Foundation for the Practice of Biblical
Counseling
4.1 Connect
When people have issues in life, they generally will find that they have wandered from practicing
principles in God’s Word to their lives. They have become disobedient to the way God wants them
to live. As a result, they will have either mental, spiritual, or physical symptoms that demonstrate
their waywardness from God. And the only way to resolve the issues is to come back to obedience
to God’s plan. This requires repentance, or a turning away, from the ways they are going to a new
way. It requires a change.
The goal of counseling is to help a person identify the ways they have wandered off the right path and to show
them the way back to obedience to the Scriptures. The goal of counseling is to bring about change. Let’s learn
more about this….
