Study Section 11: Avoiding Sexual Immorality
Daily Initiative – Wasting Time – Using Time Wisely
11.1 Connect.
A few years ago I decided that I would stop watching so much TV and replaced the time I
was wasting in learning how to program a computer. I was the administrator at a school so
thought I would learn to write a data management program for our school. It was a slow
process, but I kept working on learning the programming language and finally I was able to
create a workable product. Pretty soon other schools learned about the program I created
and wanted to use it at their school. A couple of years later I started selling copies of the
program and we created a company. Our company thrived for 17 years and produced income for lots of
employees and my own family. And multitudes of schools were blessed as they used the program to
manage their school’s data.
This happened because I shifted the use of my time to something more beneficial than watching TV or
movies. I started using that time for God’s glory, and He blessed my efforts. Today we want to see how
God can use your time for His glory also. Let’s get started.
11.2 Objectives:
1. The student should be able to discuss how to avoid sexual sin in our lives.
2. The student should be able to warn that God says that we will give an account of how we
use our time.
3. The student should be able to caution about the way Satan will lure us off the path and waste our
time.
11.3 Avoiding sexual immorality
Our culture today is trying to write its own moral standards, rather than accept God’s
moral standards as laid down in the Scriptures. What used to be wrong is now OK. What
is forbidden in the Scriptures is now encouraged behavior. If you listen to what
Hollywood and Dollywood preach about sexual behavior, your mind will be deceived.
Young men and women today are being bombarded with:
1. The exploitation of sex through pornography is rampant. II Peter 2:14
2. Extra marital affairs are no longer seen as sin. Galatians 5:19-21
3. Premarital sex is no longer considered fornication, but rather is used to see if a couple is
“compatible”. I Thessalonians 4:3-5 and I Corinthians 6:9
4. Couples are living together and marriage is not considered essential.
5. There is a rise in homosexuality or sodomy.
6. Gender confusion has been evident because of changes in the culture.
7. Domestic sexual abuse and abuse of children is almost the norm these days.
8. Abortion on demand is considered a right.
9. Selling sex – prostitution continues.
