-------- lockdown poetry --------
in a way that drowned all the toxicity I had become so
lethargic from consuming.
All in all,
you had a command about you that spoke before you
ever could;
I looked at every bit of you with new eyes;
The flab,
the pot belly,
the majestic thighs
and legs that birthed a rhythm so enigmatic to many
I couldn't help but want to know you.
I was filled with the urge to rewrite a story previously told
about you;
A story that didn't capture you quite like I could.
With every construct, I broke down the wall; with every
praise that I chanted in your honour, I got pulled towards
you.
I was in awe of you;
I fell for you.
I made a conscious decision to cherish you,
to protect you – to nurture you.
I still hear those utterances;
Weirdly enough, I use them too.
What a way to flip the script,
because I can call you FAT
and not want to disappear into myself.
I can hold my pot belly in both hands
and feel a love that is yet to be given to me,
by another.
