cutting my hair, changing my name
when I graduated high school, I cut my hair and changed my name
people asked why
"No reason."
and I believed that, I truly did
when I went to college, with my new haircut and my new name
some people doublechecked what pronouns I used
"She, her, hers."
why were they asking?
when I was uncomfortable with my body, I began looking for baggier clothes
I wondered why
"My style just changed."
that's all it was, I was sure of it
when I started to question my gender, I looked back
my subconscious had been screaming at me
"There's a reason for all this."
and I connected the dots
