IN THE SPOTLIGHT Debbie Madden, MS, CDCES
Senior Diabetes Educator Houston, North
Debbie is the newest addition to the South Texas Diabetes Education team. Debbie started with Novo Nordisk in early 2022 and she is aligned to the Houston North district. Debbie brings with her an extensive resume full of experience and clinical knowledge that spans over hard to access accounts and high-volume targets. She began her career at Kelsey Seibold in the Houston Medical Center as the head of their nutrition department. She was at Kelsey for 10 years, then she joined Methodist in the Houston Medical Center and Sugarland and oversaw their Diabetes program for the next 10 years. Debbie worked at Tandem carrying insulin pumps all over east Texas, mainly calling on Endocrinologists before she accepted a position at Texas Children’s in the Woodlands, TX. Debbie was at Texas Children’s for 4 years before joining Novo Nordisk. We asked Debbie how she came to Novo Nordisk, and she told us that she saw a change in the patients she was seeing at Texas Children’s over the course of the covid pandemic. She said the rates of type 2 diabetes diagnosis in children went up dramatically. When speaking to the parents and family members of her patients she realized that most of them have a family history of diabetes, macrovascular events and/or dialysis. Debbie saw a lack of education and knowledge with her patients and felt a desire to get back to helping educate adults and parents about diabetes and nutrition to improve the quality of life not only for them but for their children as well. She said she knew Donald Foster, EDCS and a former Novo Nordisk employee who led her to apply for the open diabetes educator position in Houston, North. Debbie has 2 boys, 23 and 26 and is enjoying being an empty nester. Debbie loves anything you can do in the great outdoors, from triathlons to gardening. Welcome to Novo Nordisk and to South Texas Debbie!! Debbie’s initials are
DBMD.
