As a parasite,
The perfect host knows
How to take a bite.
The joke is on manners and morals: in the social world the best
host bears the importunities of his guests with grace; he is able to do
so because knowing how to “take a bite” (succeed as a parasite) he
can also “take a bite” (tolerate other parasites). Of course, many
links on the subhuman food chain are composed of parasites biting
hosts; the proposition applies to the feeding habits of the animal
kingdom, as well.
