The Big Idea – Act 1
HALFWIT 3: Why is memory such a feat?
HALFWIT 1: Keeping things together is an art.
HALFWIT 2: Harder still to keep them apart!
HALFWIT 3: Why do those others seem so smart?
HALFWIT 1:
Again our brains have failed
To organize the thoughts
Our ears and eyes detailed.
HALFWIT 2:
Things we’ve just heard and seen
Have made an impression—
But not of what they mean.
HALFWIT 3:
If people really went
Into that darkened cave,
Then we know what was meant.
HALFWIT 1:
Like them we should be there:
Discussing our problems,
Demonstrating our care.
HALFWIT 2:
And yet a nagging doubt
Continues to plague us:
All enter, none come out.
HALFWIT 3:
Is there a writhing nest
Of snakes concealed within—
Much larger than we guessed?
HALFWIT 1:
Could that boisterous bunch
Of people who went in
End up a reptile’s lunch?
