RIVAL 1
But so the others would
Who’re in your neighborhood.
ENTREPRENEUR:
Yes, all of us are free:
Why should that bother me?
RIVAL 1:
Exhausted by labor,
You’ll lose to your neighbor.
ENTREPRENEUR:
What! You think they would seek
To beat me while I’m weak?
RIVAL 1:
Why not? They’ll have the time,
And trading’s not a crime.
ENTREPRENEUR:
But I know certain things
Only great practice brings.
RIVAL 1:
You know fashions will change
When conditions are strange.
ENTREPRENEUR: (indicates sack)
Yes, too sadly it’s true,
Of women—and men, too.
RIVAL 1:
So you do understand:
You must shift with demand.
ENTREPRENEUR:
I can learn what they crave,
By the way they behave.
