Page 19 - Lulu and Bob in Verbo City
P. 19

Lulu and Bob walked dejectedly back toward the left hemisphere.
“What a lousy way to end our visit.”
Bob spoke while scanning the walls, floor and ceiling. Lulu did the
        same.
“Indeed it is, Bob. I know one course of study I will never pursue:
        entomology.”
           “Don’t you mean etymology?”
“No,” she replied. “But in this case they are the same thing.”
“Well, I definitely have no desire to enter the exciting field of pest
management,” said Bob, as they slouched into the study.
“‘Conversationalists.’ Nobody is talking in here but us. Unless—,” he
stopped abruptly at the telephone stand. “You know, Sis: we paid no
attention to this device once we got the list off the pad. And who
        uses the telephone?”
“Of course!” Lulu picked up the handset. “It’s black and so is this
little imp! It’s virtually invisible unless you hold the phone up against
        a light background.”
“Quick!” Bob’s voice went up an octave in his excitement. “Let’s
get them all in the linguarium and turn down the heat. Maybe open a
        window or two.”
