Page 24 - Lulu and Bob in Verbo City
P. 24
Bob and Lulu bated their breath to the point of bluefacing while
Bunster gently deposited “octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane” on a bit of
shiny plastic tubing in one corner of the linguarium where it was
warmest.
“Ah,” said he, at last. “It’s rattling its component carbon chains.
And here comes ‘otorhinolaryngological’ to investigate. Looks like I
got it in time.”
He closed the tank lid and faced his sibling’s offspring.
“Now you’ll have to take a later bus. You cannot possibly catch
the next-to-last one. The delay would simply give you time to sit
around and repent your miscreance. Instead I’m offering you a
chance to compete against me in a word game of my choice. If I win,
I will send a bad report back to your parents. In any event I shall not
submit your names for membership in the Wordcraft Rangers; some
things simply cannot be overlooked.”
“And if we win?” Bob was hopeful.
“I said it would be a contest of my own preference,” replied Uncle
Bunster.
