With brows still lowered in a frown
He replied, putting his fork down:
“Mom: I cannot understand
Why these are the meals you have planned:

Macaroni, cannelloni,
Or—as tonight—rigatoni.
So many main dishes that look
Unalike when you start to cook,

But contain the same basic stuff:
Pasta—I’ve had more than enough!
It’s prepared both fancy and plain:
Are they different kinds of grain?”

“No, they’re made of semolina wheat;
All the shapes make it fun to eat:
Such variety should soften
Having to eat noodles often.”
