The Old Observatory
First I used a cotton cloth for dusting
My binoculars before adjusting
Their focus to the eastern horizon—
Because I would have to keep my eyes on
The rising ecliptic to catch the show
Of short-lived shooting stars that blaze and glow,
Sky-writing terminal bursts of glory,
Earth’s dense atmosphere their crematory.
