Alphabet on Vacation















        It was R who started complaining.
        “I’m always right in the middle of a lot of work,” said R.
        “No more than I am,” replied O, a little crossly.
        W  and  K  couldn’t  help  overhearing  this  conversation  between  their
      next-door neighbors, so they put in their opinions, too.
        “Listen,  W,” said K, “I have to finish everything you  start,  and I’m
      getting tired of it.”
        “Is that so?” answered W. “You think it’s easy always getting to work
      first? Let me tell you a thing or two!”















        Soon all the letters were at each other’s throats, squabbling over who
      had to appear in the most words, who had to stand in as a silent letter the
      most often, and who wasn’t really necessary at all because another letter
      had exactly the same sound.  Of course, nothing was agreed  upon and
      nobody was satisfied as a result of all this fighting. It tired them out, and
      they fell silent, thinking about what had just happened
