OTHER WRITINGS

In addition to the autobiographical series of typed and written
pages, a number of other documents by AR remain. These may be
divided into two categories: essays or articles written for publication,
mainly on the subject of Zionism and all composed within the decade
following World War One; and letters, primarily written to family
        members.
The articles that actually were published exist as newspaper
clippings donated to the archives of the Los Angeles Jewish
Historical Society by Carmel Winkler; those that weren’t remain in
manuscript, preserved with his narrative and other related
documents. The tone and content of these articles are echoed in AR’s
testament; his opinions evidently changed little in the decades
        between them.
           The letters are mainly from a batch preserved by Carmel Winkler;
others may someday come to light. Most of them are handwritten,
and appear here in highly edited form—like any correspondent, AR
included many pleasantries and conventional formulae, few of which
bear repetition. The greatest interest of these documents is their
revelation of his personality in a (usually) relaxed and informal
context, and of the language he used with children in the family.
Again, his concern with Jewish identity and Hebrew language are
        evident here.
