        in that place; you could go climbing up on it and look through it. I
        found old postage stamp collections and things people had thrown
        away. People threw away things that thirty or forty years later were
        very valuable.
           I used to go with him to visit that artist, Jon Raymond. It must
        have been in the late fifties. I think they were talking about how to
        carve mouths, and Abe was very attentive. I remember him working
        on pieces over at our house. Once he retired, he was carving  full-
        time.  As  I  got  older,  I  saw  less  and  less  of  him,  since  I  was  busy
        working and studying. He wrote letters to me when I was studying in
        Sweden; his concern was that I might marry a Swedish girl and bring
        her home!
