Fantastic and allegorical figures

the popular mind; that may be the clue revealing the sculptor’s
              intentions.

        109 Oval base with feet
            Wood
            3” x 3.5”
Inscription: From Abraham to my beloved Carmel (Hebrew,
                    around side of base)

No. 109 is a mystery rather than a fantasy—but this carving
falls into no other category, so here it comes to rest. Two bare
feet are carved in the top of a base; they have holes drilled into
them for attaching the rest of a figure—but no sculpture with
missing feet has been found. Could AR have produced the base
(with its specific dedicatory inscription) prior to attempting the
rest of the piece—and then abandoned the project? It seems
more likely that the rest of it was carved first and is now lost.
