Cooking the Cannibals of Kek-lawa
“Of course not,” replied the Vindelgan imperturbably. “I have
nothing against the Kek as a race, you understand, but my success
here is a direct result of my non-intervention in Kek affairs. You are
a new recruit to the PKU, so it may be difficult for you to appreciate
the wisdom of this policy. I trust that you will come to know its true
value after your experience at this post. Have you any more
questions? I hope not, for I really must rest up for my journey
tomorrow. I’m not used to all this activity, you know.”
“The Kek see it land and bring out their own barrels…”
Kaga excused himself and retired to his quarters. As he prepared
for bed, the events of the day rushed through his mind; he was left
with a vague feeling of unease. Can it really be that simple, he asked
himself as he sank into sleep, or is there more to life as a PKU
representative than being a silent trading partner?
