dollars, were found in a safe in the office of the printing plant’s
manager, Egon Fetz.”
Viewers were treated to a clip of Fetz, handcuffed arms raised to
protect himself against a barrage of camera lights, being led to a
waiting police car. His signet ring flashed back at the photographers.
“Fetz, who has supervised LibrAries Press operations for more
than a dozen years, is likely to be the chief suspect in the Thurston
Furd case. In a brief statement he denied all knowledge of the
poisoned book, but he would give no explanation of the copies in his
safe. An anonymous source at the Justice Department told me this
morning that he now suspects LibrAries Press of hiding profits from
its previous best-sellers, and that the IRS will become involved.
Andrew Cockleberry left the country only hours before he would
have been arrested: had he been tipped off, or did the shrewd old
Aussie sense that the end was near? In any event, with the publisher’s
disappearance, Egon Fetz is likely to turn state’s evidence and spill
the beans about the boss who left him holding the bag. So take a
good look at Libraries Press: it is not likely to be in business
tomorrow. Now, back to you, Dick. This is Polly Glotz for WROT
news.”
