Another garbled exchange between the humans in the vehicle
ensued. Then they ran around to the back door and threw it open.
Rapidly they untied the sacks and released their feline captives,
shooing them out into the darkened alley where the station wagon
had eluded pursuit. The cats headed off in all directions, some
limping badly—but all eager to find a place of refuge. Sacks emptied,
the men jumped back in the car and drove off hastily.
