Fungi can’t make their own food so they take nutrients from plants
Trees can live for hundreds of years, but they can’t live forever. Sometimes tree trunks will fall to the ground too, and the rotten wood is broken down by fungi and minibeasts eating it. This means the nutrients can go back into the soil, making it healthy for new plants to grow.
