Page 30 - We Made a Movie
P. 30

Before I could reply, Mum and Dad launched into a debate about Wishnook Vegas, which resulted in both of them being covered in copious amounts of orange varnish. I tutted at them and continued my search for the camera.
It was almost mid-morning before I finally gave up looking. I raided my piggy bank and counted up the money. There was just about enough to buy an old camera from the charity shop, if Edna had one in stock. It probably wouldn’t be very good, but I was sure Kai could edit the footage on his computer and make it look all swanky.
I poured the money into my coin purse, and went to Dad’s shed to ask for a lift. He was in there, dabbing the last remaining varnish off his forehead with a bottle of surgical spirit. A flock of wooden seagulls swung above his head.
“Can you take me to the mainland so I can see Kai?” I asked.
“All right. I need to get some lamb for tonight’s stew anyway,” he said.
Fabien, who was walking past the shed, stopped in his tracks and shot daggers at us. “We DO NOT eat lamb on this island.”
