Bea made a grab for the little rabbit, worried she might scare her into leaping across the road. Reaching her just in time, she scooped Goldie up and pressed her face against the rabbit’s fur, her heart still racing. The rabbit burrowed into her arms, hiding her nose beneath Bea’s elbow.
Bea stroked her really gently until she stopped trembling. “That was close!” she told Keira breathlessly. “I really thought she was going to run into the road.”
“That was really close!” agreed Keira. “What are we going to do? We can’t just leave her here.”
Bea stroked Goldie’s ears. “We’ll have to take her home with us until we work out where she came from. Do you think your parents would have her at the café?”
Keira pulled a face. “I’d love to take her ... but what about Rosie? She’s frightened the bunny twice already!”
“You’re right!” Bea stroked Goldie thoughtfully. She wasn’t supposed to bring animals back to the palace – she’d been told that lots of times – but this was an emergency!
Perhaps if she kept her in the garden then it wouldn’t be so bad... “I’ll take her home then!” She kissed the rabbit’s nose. “I think you’ll like it at the palace, Goldie!”
