The Romans FEARED and respected their gods and would pray and make offerings and sacrifices.
warning!
Do not attempt to conduct your own sacrifices. EVER! If you really must give it a go,
stick to cutting a sausage in half or poking a chicken nugget with
a fork.
Everything from coins, jewellery and silver statues, to food and drink was offered to the gods, and animal sAcRiFiCeS were common.
At one end of the scale a bird might be sacrificed – but at the other end, a whole herd of cattle could be offered if you rEaLlY wanted to impress a god! Sacrificing a mosquito probably wouldn’t get you much in the way of favours from the big guys and gals in the clouds, though.
Thanks! You too. I hope it's going to be a good party.
You look fabulous, darling!
Before sacrificing a large animal, a priest would bathe and put on ceremonial robes. Male animals were sacrificed for gods, and female animals for goddesses. The animals were also given a wash and decorated with ribbons and embroidered blankets, and sometimes their horns (if they had any) were painted with gold. To be honest, looking simply fAbUlOuS probably didn’t make them feel a whole lot better, due to the whole "about to be sacrificed" thing.
